Dark Paradise Angie Sandro Books Reviews

You can't fault Sandro for her creativity and enthusiasm. Unfortunately instead of it being fast paced I found it hectic and unclear at times. Sandro needs to control her enthusiasm and be clearer, because at the moment it is to the detriment of the story.
Dark Paradise is New Adult, which is essentially a YA with quite a bit of the horizontal tango thrown in for free. I thought it was on the younger end of YA, despite the occasional fondle. The characters are very teeny, flighty and immature. The plot has a lot of potential, but is weighed down by the hectic and often slightly chaotic writing.
However Sandro does have a lot of good ideas, and as a reader I can see the potential, because she has an abundance of creativity.
Mala comes from a long line of voodoo, hoodoo witches, but she is unaware of her hidden talents. Those talents start to manifest in the form of visitations by ghosts, when she finds the body of a young girl in the middle of the bayou.
She finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation. Accused by the town, while the ghost of the girl demands answers from Mala at the same time.
As if that wasn't difficult enough her romantic interests are drawn in two separate directions at the same time. There is cute police officer and the temperamental brother of the victim.
Overall this is an ambitious urban fantasy with plenty of potential for development and improvement.

"Dark Paradise" By Angie Sandro

The first book in the Dark Paradise series.

Release date July 1st.

Mala LaCroix's life isn't ideal. Her Mother is the town hooker, alcoholic and rumored witch. The man she has been crushing on for years thinks of her as his annoying kid sister and oh yeah, she just had to pull a dead girl out of the bayou behind her house. To make matters worse the dead girl is now haunting her and forcing her to use powers she can't control, powers that she has denied the very existence of for years.

Landry Prince is in love with Mala. He watches her from a distance, never having the courage to talk to her let alone speak his true feelings. However when he discovers that Mala might have information on his sisters brutal murder he will stop at nothing to find out the truth, even if that means proving that Mala herself had something to do with it.

I can't express how much I loved this book.
Mystery, murder, love triangles.
Check, check and check.
Throw in some witch hoodoo and I'm completely hooked.

I loved Angie's writing style and her characters. The way she described the town and the people within it made me feel like I had been living there my whole life, walking along side Mala while the judgmental looks and un-approving glances were thrown her way.

I don't want to dive too deep into the story for fear of accidentally spoiling something so I will leave you with this.

Add "Dark Paradise" to your TBR list, pre-order it, wait in line at midnight to get it.
You will not be sorry.

Until next time,
Ginger

My review is my honest opinion.
The setting of Dark Paradise had my attention right from the start. Angie Sandro opens this book in such a way that you just cannot put it down. From the very first pages, I was swept up in the suspense of this story. Her adroitness at writing the characters without letting them fall prey to the stereotypes of the south also made me want to keep reading.

Mala is exactly what I want out of my heroines. She didn't take no for an answer, she had a backbone, and she didn't give in or give up. I have so much respect for Angie Sandro just for the way that she wrote Mala! It was so easy to picture these characters as people. Angie Sandro gave them all voices fitting to their circumstances. My one draw back was the relationship between Mala and Landry. I'm not exactly sure what it was, maybe the back and forth?, but I struggled with it at times.

Out of all the books I've read lately, this is one of those that you can immediately see it being optioned as a tv show or movie. It was a great story that you just got lost in. The paranormal elements of Dark Paradise never seemed too heavy. This is a book that crosses over many genres, but I don't feel like it was overly saturated. Everything fit cohesively into a brilliant story!
