Come on, Stuart Woods, your stories used to be fascinating, but this book rattled on about a world where everything seems to fall into place for the new wealthy and very complacent characters and described questionable story lines no one wants to read about. This book lacks the wonderful writing you used to do so well - where were the twists and turns of events and characters that kept me up until all hours of the night because I couldn't stop reading? A law firm practice without bumps in the road or legal set backs and a former-felon-turned-attorney rising so high, so fast and so successfully in the legal hierarchy without opposition or disappointments in career? Not true, says a former 30-year legal professional with additional law enforcement experience. The familiar, comfortable and interesting characters we admire and respect are suddenly expanding their financial worth (as well as their relatives and business associates worth, too) without stops, starts, problems or defeats? Living the "high life" without trips, falls, or failures? Fantasy. The book had too many of those "Who Cares?" sex scenes that makes drinking a glass of water more meaningful. Oh, how I miss your former books, Stuart Woods, where you integrated these sex scenes into the story line with such finesse, sensitivity and circumstances that enriched your stories. I slugged through the whole book because I have respected and admired your writing for years (and have read ALL of your books), but this time, in vain, I waited for Stuart Woods to appear - and he never did. Oh, please, Stuart Woods, come back?

Unnatural Acts Stone Barrington Stuart Woods 9781611760675 Books Reviews

Herbie's new found adulthood and brilliance is beyond belief! Can't imagine how Stone can bed every gorgeous, wealthy woman he meets and never have a problem. All of his sexual exploits are becoming a bit boring and hard to believe.
I have now read all 41 books in the Stone Barrington series. Out of order, unfortunately, but it didn't matter too much.
What I loved the most was the continuity of the principal character, Stone and Dino, and several of the repeats, especially the amazing Herbie Fisher whose turnaround (over a few volumes) is an amazing success story for Stone.

I enjoyed other characters, good and bad. and the imaginative plots in all of the books. All were exciting, with unexpected twists. I hope that Stuart Woods will write more Stone Barrington books; in the meantime I'll turn to the Holly Fisher and Ed Eagle series, both of whom appeared in the Barrington books.

Keep up the great work, Stuart

I have hated the last several Stuart Woods'books. I can't call them novels--because "novel" implies new thoughts, new stories, new ways of looking at old characters. There is nothing new in any of the last several books. Take heed readers, many reviews here says his work is not enjoyable. This was the final one for me. I have been pushed over the edge--i will never purchase or read another load of his trash. Who can possibly like, let alone empathize with any of the characters??--my husband always says a book can still be good even if the plot is thin, if its been a good visit with the characters--i have decided to shut the door on this group of characters--forever.
Yes, it was even slicker than usual. And, yes, it looks like the stories got wrapped up in a rush. And, yes, it was more Herbie than Stone. However...

There was still enough interesting stuff. And since the stories were, I thought, interesting enough, it didn't bother me that they got wrapped up suddenly. In fact, I actually liked the way the Herbie story ended. Also, I liked Herbie's story BETTER than what was going on with Stone.

I think there were a few too many people in the book, and that may be why it was a little off. I found about half the women boring the two theatrical women and Shelley. I very much enjoyed the two policewomen and Herbie's secretary. Dink and his two friends seemed a little like caricatures, although Dink himself had just enough life to keep me interested in the story.

So, all in all, I enjoyed it enough to go back and start over once I finished reading it the first time. Skipping the parts that bored me, and there were many, there was - as I said before - still enough to be interesting.

Sidenote When I heard Elaine had died, I wondered how Stuart Woods was going to handle it in his next story. I think he did okay. I happen to like PJ Clarke's, so I like that Stone and Dino may become regulars there.

In any case, definitely not the best Stone Barrington novel, but not so bad that I regretted buying it. Even at $12.99. I hope the next one will be better, but as long as they don't get any worse, I'm still a Stuart Woods fan.
I have purchased all of Stuart Woods' books - but Unnatural Acts may be the last one. Like others who reviewed the book, I am getting tired of all the women in the book who - at one time or another - fall into bed with Stone Barrington. Also really tired of reading how many times they "make love" in one night and how tired and exhausted they are.

I'm sorry they won't be at Elaine's any more, but now they seem to be gathering at PJ Clark's in this book. I like Dino, too, but how much time can a Lt. in the NYPD take off?

In this book, Mr. Woods introduces us to the previously rediculous charter of "Herbie" who appears to grow up and into the "new Stone Barrington". Really? Seriously? How did this happen and so quickly - it is unbelievable.

I like to read a book with a plot that gets you interested and keeps you guessing until the end.

Hope the next book is better - or this may be the last one for me. Its a shame.
I've read all of Stuart Woods books and this is the biggest disappointment! Where is the story line? Half way through and still waiting for something to happen. Don't waste your money on this!
